Frequently Asked Questions
Is mesquite wood safe for cast iron and nonstick cookware?
Yes. Mesquite's density makes it hard enough to hold up under regular use, but it will not scratch seasoned cast iron or damage nonstick coatings the way metal utensils can.
How do I care for a mesquite wood spatula?
Hand wash with mild soap and warm water, then dry immediately. Avoid the dishwasher, prolonged soaking, or high heat, and periodically recondition the wood with a food-safe oil (we recommend coconut oil, the same finish used on every spatula) to keep it from drying out.
Where is Cowboy Spatula Company based and how are the spatulas made?
We're based in Texas. Every spatula is cut, shaped, and hand-sanded from native Texas mesquite in our workshop, then finished by hand. While we strive to make them as similar as possible, no two pieces are exactly alike.
Can I get a spatula personalized or engraved?
Yes. Every Cowboy Spatula can be custom engraved with a name, initials, or a favorite saying, making it a popular personalized gift for weddings, Father's Day, housewarming, and other occasions.
Do you offer bulk or custom logo orders?
Yes. For batch orders of custom logos or text, contact us directly for a quote.
Why do you use Texas Mesquite wood?
Mesquite is one of North America's hardest and most durable domestic hardwoods. Its ultra-dense grain structure resists cracking, moisture, and wear.
What makes Cowboy Spatulas different from standard wooden spatulas?
Every Cowboy Spatula is individually handcrafted in Texas using native Texas Mesquite hardwood. Unlike mass-market utensils shaped on computer CNC machines, our tools are shaped by hand to ensure comfortable balance, smooth edges, and long-lasting quality.
What is the difference between the Original and Texas Slim models?
-
Original (11" x 3"): Features a broader blade base, perfect for all-around cooking, flipping burgers, scraping skillets, and crushing garlic or chopping up ground meat.
-
Texas Slim (13" x 2.25"): Longer and narrower, giving you extra reach over hot flames or deep pots.
How are the spatulas finished?
We finish our spatulas using solvent-free coconut-derived oil. We never use synthetic stains, lacquers, or questionable chemicals, keeping your cooking utensils completely food-safe and natural.
